| 8/14/1987 | Bharat Ratna, India's highest award, was given to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan (1890-1988), Frontier Gandhi. He is the first non-Indian to receive this honour. |
| 4/28/1740 | Baji Rao I aka Thorle BajiRao Peshwa passed away at Raverkhedi near the banks of the Narmada river near Khargon and his son Balaji Baji Rao was placed on his father's throne as the Peshwa. |

| 4/25/1915 | The German High Command has admitted that chlorine gas bombs and shells were used in the attack on the French front at Ypres three days ago. The effect of the gas attack was to open a four-mile gap in the Allied line. The Canadian troops on one flank held against German attacks, and British and Indian forces filled the breach. Fortunately for the Allies, the Germans had no reserve forces available to push into the breach. No tactical advantage was won by this first use of the new weapon. The Germans promised, however, that ""more effective substances can be expected."" Meanwhile, they were condemned for the use of this novel weapon. |

| 10/24/1953 | Selection of the Dassault Ouragan fighter from France at this time reflected the decision to initiate diversification of supply sources. The first four of over 100 Ouragans, or 'Toofanis' as they were to become known in the IAF, reached Palam Airport from France and this type re-equipped Nos.8, 3 and 4 Squadrons in that order. |

| 5/26/1906 | Benjamin Peary Pal, internationally famous scientist of Indian agriculture, was born at Mukundpur, Punjab. In 1929, he went to Cambridge to do research on wheat and he returned to Burma with a Ph.D. five years later. In 1933, he got a research job with what is now known as the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. In 1965, Pal became Director General of the newly founded Indian Council of Agricultural Research in New Delhi. He has written several books on roses, the most popular being ""The Rose in India"". |
